Employees value their healthcare benefits and many of them make employment decisions based on them. Employers know how important it is, but they also know that it can get expensive. They always try to balance providing a worthwhile benefit to their staff with limiting the costs.
Medical care is expensive, and when costs rise, this places a financial burden on the employers. This is true whether the companies are self-insured or are covering the costs of the health insurance policies.
Skyrocketing Costs Can Be Minimized
One of the factors that can cause medical costs to skyrocket is a lack of interoperability. Doctors need to access all their patients’ medical records from all their care providers at the point of care in order to adequately treat their patients.
When they don’t have all the information they need, doctors can make errors that will make the patient sicker, require additional and often unnecessary doctor visits, and even order tests and procedures that aren’t needed. Costs can be minimized when doctors have all the information. Additionally, this lack of information reduces doctor efficiency and contributes to burnout.
MedKaz Easily Solves the Interoperability Issue
We have a solution that is very easy to implement and solves these issues. It’s called MedKaz, and it’s a small mini drive that contains digital copies of a patient’s complete medical record from all his or her providers. The patient owns it and gives it to their doctors at the point of care. Their doctors use it to access their records; it enables them to save time and avoid medical errors and unnecessary costs.
Doctors have been slow to adopt MedKaz because they think it is complicated to learn, like their EMR system was. This most certainly isn’t the case for MedKaz. In fact, they use MedKaz as a source of information about their patient. They then enter their notes in their own EMR system, not directly into MedKaz. The information is automatically sent to the MedKaz server.
Encourage Adoption through Incentives
Since MedKaz saves payers money, payers can afford to pay employees and their doctors a fraction of their savings as financial incentives to use MedKaz.
- Employers can offer MedKaz as an employee benefit, plus they can reduce their deductibles and copays when they use it with their doctors.
- Payers can pay doctors financial incentives to automatically upload their record following an encounter, and when they use their patient’s MedKaz.
The end result is that by using a patient’s MedKaz, doctors are able to better coordinate their care, prevent costly mistakes, increase their income, and reduce burnout. Payers save money, even after paying the incentives, and patients enjoy better care and save money, as well.
