OUR HISTORY

The Evolution of MedKaz®: Empowering Patients and Providers

Health Record Corporation, creator of MedKaz®, was established in 2006. The first generation MedKaz system, patented in 2007, eliminated the need for doctors to fax records, and ensured the patient’s complete record was available at the point of care. This first generation system is still available today for care providers who prefer paper records.

The second generation MedKaz system was introduced in 2012, when most care providers were scrambling to install government-financed EHR systems and meet “meaningful use” requirements. This version assembled a patient’s now-fully-electronic records from all their providers on the patient’s MedKaz, increasing provider efficiency and presenting a complete view of the patients’ health.

Today’s third-generation MedKaz goes even further.  It’s not just a secure, patient-owned medical record—it’s a communication platform. It enables patients to share their complete, lifetime health records with all of their physicians—and anyone else they choose—within 24 hours of a visit. This dramatically improves care coordination, precludes medical errors, and enhances safety by:

  • Giving the patient’s primary care physician (PCP) and other providers a full, up-to-date view of their health

  • Preventing avoidable errors and unnecessary costs from duplicate visits, tests, and procedures

  • Allowing loved ones, caregivers, and designees to better support the patient’s care

  • Facilitating easy, seamless record-sharing—even across different EHR systems or care locations

  • Lowering healthcare costs and unlocking new financial gains for the health system

MedKaz is redefining connected care—by putting the power back in the patients’ hands.

OUR TEAM

Merle Bushkin is Founder & CEO of Health Record Corporation, the company he formed to create MedKaz. Previously a career investment banker, he initiated mergers and acquisitions totaling billions of dollars, spanning many industries. Earlier he worked as a corporate executive and management consultant. He is a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Business School.

He became interested in medical records following Hurricane Katrina. Like others, he asked why doctors kept paper records and shared records via fax when every other industry was computerized.

As a senior citizen and investment banker, he brought a unique “outsider” perspective to the problem and assembled a talented team of developers and advisors to solve it. Our outstanding team members, initially headed by Greg Rosensteel, have degrees in computer science from leading universities, and have worked with such technology leaders as Google, Microsoft and InterSystems as well as entrepreneurial startups. Together, they formulated the unique, groundbreaking MedKaz solution.
